ACTIVITY 1 – TRACING
Trace the letters with the middle and index fingers of the right hand from up to down. Tracing can be done from right to left or left to right.
After tracing the letter completely, say the phonetic sound.
Eg “b” has the sound of the Hindi ‘b’, not bee
SKILLS DEVELOPED
By tracing over the textured letters with their fingers, children associate symbols or letter shapes to the sounds which sets the base for reading & refines pre-writing skills. An ancient technique, that uses visual, muscular, auditory and textural senses, all reinforcing alphabet shape and sound
21 wooden boards painted red and fixed with sandpaper cut into consonants, 5 wooden boards painted blue with sandpaper cut into vowels, 1 wooden tray to hold the wooden boards, 1 detailed instruction manual, all packed in a Skola box
In ancient times, wise teachers used tracing in the sand to help children learn alphabet. This modern day version uses the same technique of using the muscular and textural senses, which are two of the strongest senses, to enable learning. A highly recommended activity to help the child learn the shapes of the lower case letters of the English alphabet.
