50 wooden dyed blocks geometric blocks, 1 wooden tray with printed bottom, 1 instruction manual, 1 Skola Doodle Box
Building blocks is the quintessential creative toy, where there are no prescribed outcomes. The child is to innovate and create patterns and structures. Partial pairing, identical pairing, sorting by colours and shape and most importantly 3d-2d translation are some activities with this toy
ACTIVITY 1 – CREATIVITY
Take the pieces out and show the child how to create various shapes.
ACTIVITY 2 – PAIRING
Take out all the pieces. Show the child how to pair identical shapes.
ACTIVITY 3 – 2D-3D TRANSLATION
Remove the shapes and place them around randomly. Take the pieces out one by one, look pointedly at its base and put it in the right slot.
ACTIVITY 4 – MEMORY GAME
Place the blocks on a tray in another room. Place an indicator on any one shape on the base. The child has to remember the 2D shape and bring the corresponding 3D piece from the other room.
ACTIVITY 5 – NAME GAME
Take some of the pieces and introduce names one by one in 3 stages
a. Introduction: Name clearly
b. Recognition: Ask the child to identify (eg. – “”Which is a Cylinder?””)
c. Confirmation: Ask the child, “What is this?” (eg. – the child answers “Cylinder”)
SKILLS DEVELOPED
Children correlate 3D objects with their 2D parts discovering that each side of a 3D object is a 2D surface. Memory games enhance this partial pairing, laying the foundation for areas & volumes
This classic toy boosts creative abilities, building all kinds of structures while developing fine motor skills.
